Tap to hook, release to fly — Stickman Hook is a one-button physics swinger that's deceptively simple to pick up and genuinely hard to put down.

Game Overview

In Stickman Hook, you guide a stretchy stickman through obstacle-filled courses by latching onto anchor points, building momentum, and releasing at just the right moment to fly toward the finish. Developed by Madbox and released in 2018, the game eases you in gently — the first five levels even have bounce pads lining the entire floor, so failure is nearly impossible. But the difficulty curve is real: later stages introduce tight corridors, reverse-direction pads that fling you backward, and obstacles that demand precise swing angles.

After a failed run the game auto-restarts immediately, keeping frustration low and the "one more try" loop spinning. Clear a level and hit Spacebar (or tap) to roll straight into the next.

Controls & How to Play

Stickman Hook uses a single input — everything else is timing.

  • Hook & swing: Hold Left Mouse Button / Spacebar (desktop) or tap and hold (mobile)
  • Launch: Release the button / lift your finger
  • Restart after fail: Automatic — no button needed
  • Next level: Spacebar or tap after clearing a stage

What Makes Stickman Hook Fun

The one-button design hides a surprising skill ceiling. Early on you're just trying not to fall; a few levels later you're intentionally skipping closer hooks to preserve speed, bouncing off pads to clear wide gaps, and hunting for the precise release point that sends your stickman arcing perfectly toward the next anchor.

That release timing has a real physics foundation: at the lowest point of a swing — when your character hangs directly below the hook — forward velocity peaks. Let go there for pure horizontal distance. Hold on a beat longer until the stickman angles upward slightly, and you'll trade some distance for height, which is often exactly what a tricky layout demands. It takes a few runs to internalize, but when it clicks, every level starts to feel like a puzzle with a satisfying solution.

Then there's the chaos. Hook onto an anchor surrounded by multiple bounce pads and don't let go — your stickman will pinball between them in an escalating frenzy, speed doubling and tripling until you release and shoot off in a completely unpredictable direction. It's objectively useless and absolutely hilarious.

Skins add a low-key progression layer too. Some unlock automatically after hitting level milestones; others are available by watching a short ad. Vampires, sharks, penguins, cacti — all purely cosmetic, all with their own victory dance.

Tips & Strategy

Master the release window. The lowest point of the swing gives maximum forward speed. Releasing slightly past vertical — when the stickman is angling upward — adds height to the arc. Play a few rounds and let your hands learn the rhythm; theory only gets you so far.

Skip hooks deliberately. Grabbing every anchor bleeds momentum. When the path is open, let the closer hooks pass and use the extra speed to clear the next gap cleanly.

Use bounce pads as engines, not obstacles. Landing on a pad can relaunch you farther than any normal swing. Plan your descent to hit them on purpose.

Don't panic off-screen. If a bad bounce sends you into a reverse swing — looping counterclockwise and heading backward — keep holding. Let the stickman complete most of the rotation until it's facing forward-right again, then release. You'll launch toward the upper-right, potentially flying off-screen entirely, but as long as the rope was attached when you let go, you won't fail and can still reach the finish.

The floor off the bottom of the screen is instant death — releasing while swinging downward past the screen edge ends the run immediately.
